Director of Development

Summary:

Reporting jointly to the Managing Director of the Annenberg Center and the Director of Development for Arts and Culture of the University of Pennsylvania, the Director of Development is responsible for the overall supervision of fundraising activities for the Annenberg Center. Key responsibilities include: conceptualizing, planning and executing a program of fundraising in support of productions, programs, and special events; board development; building an individual major gift program; and maintaining and building the existing corporate, foundation and government funding streams.

The Director will be a member of the Annenberg Center's senior leadership team and manage the Center's development staff which comprises the Assistant Director of Development and the Administrative Assistant. In addition, the Director will work with the Center's Board to promote its active involvement in the fundraising process and with the University's Central Development and Alumni Relations Department to maximally leverage University development and prospect resources.

Essential Functions:

Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan; analyze data on potential funding sources (individuals, government agencies, corporations, foundations); identify appropriate techniques for obtaining major gifts, grants, and sponsorships; organize and oversee the work of volunteers and support staff; evaluate an appeal to a particular donor in terms of size of gift, timing, and method of giving; and writing, preparing and supervising grant and sponsorship proposals; coordinate fundraising efforts with leadership for the Advisory Board; solicit gifts; and establish effective procedures for sustaining donor interest and cultivating new gift and sponsorship opportunities.

Qualifications:

B.A. or B.S. degree. Five or more years of fundraising experience with a focus on individual giving, preferably within an arts related institution or in a University setting.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  1. Proven record of successful development experience in a well established and recognized non-profit institution.
  2. Demonstrated experience closing gifts from individuals of six figures and above.
  3. Thorough familiarity with the fundamental precepts, tools and methodologies of arts organization fundraising, including campaign planning and management.
  4. Knowledge of, or experience in, government grant writing (e.g., NEA, NEH, PCA etc.), familiarity with the Pew Charitable Trusts and the William Penn Foundation, and solicitation of corporate and media sponsorships helpful.
  5. Developed computer skills in word processing, database, and spreadsheet operations.
  6. Basic appreciation for the performing arts as well as for Annenberg Center's relationship to the University community and the regional and national cultural scene. Capacity to understand and articulate the role of the Annenberg Center and interact comfortably with those individuals and constituencies that are crucial to its advancement.
  7. Solid administrative skills and the ability to establish objectives, set performance standards, and organize and motivate development staff and volunteers to achieve fundraising goals.
  8. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  9. High motivation and a capacity for hard work within the context of an intensely goal oriented environment.
  10. Ability to function independently, yet relate comfortably to a centralized framework for fundraising.
  11. Valid driver's license required.

Sales Representative

Summary:

The Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts is seeking a part-time Sales Representative to secure subscription sales for the 2009-10 season of Penn Presents and Dance Celebration. The ideal candidate will have strong sales skills and a detailed knowledge and passion for the performing arts, specifically modern dance, theatre, world music and jazz.

Ushers are needed to take tickets, seat patrons, distribute programs, and provide excellent customer service to patrons of the Annenberg Center.
