On the Outdoor Plaza
While performers entertain on the Outdoor Stage, craft traditions are celebrated and taught through Playworks on the Plaza, where international artisans from local museums and ethnic centers, teach their art and play educational games.
In order to guide children and families in experiencing the wealth of wonderful cultural offerings in Philadelphia, we will collaborate with the following in presenting this beloved hands-on Festival tradition: Spiral Q Puppet Theatre, Abington Art Center, University City Arts League, University Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Cereality, World Café Live, and the Turkish-American Friendship Society. And in carry on a great tradition, individual artists will teach children how to make simplified versions of Ukrainian psanky, African drums, Korean fans and Peruvian sun dials.
