Orchestra Underground: Conversations January 30 PAQUITO D'RIVERA clarinet & saxophone ROBERT BLACK double bass ANNE MANSON conductor PAWEL WOJTASIK video ROGER ZARE Time Lapse (Philadelphia Premiere, ACO/Underwood Commission) SEBASTIAN CURRIER Next Atlantis for string orchestra, video and pre-recorded sound (Philadelphia Premiere, ACO/Goelet Commission) PAQUITO D’RIVERA Conversations with Cachao (Philadelphia Premiere) The American Composers Orchestra returns as Cuban-born composer/saxophonist Paquito D’Rivera joins Orchestra Underground in a concerto for saxophone and double bass – a tribute to his friend and Cuban Mambo star, bassist Israel “Cachao” López. Sebastian Currier and Pawel Wojtasik evoke New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, with murmurs of water and Dixieland, in their new multimedia work Next Atlantis. And Roger Zare, a talented, intellectual, spiritual, and visceral young composer, selected through ACO’s 2008 national emerging composers program, debuts his newly commissioned Time Lapse. Pre-concert Chat – Join American Composers Orchestra Artistic Director Robert Beaser as he sits down with Paquito D’Rivera, Sebastian Currier, Pawel Wojtasik and Roger Zare during a special pre-concert chat beginning at 7:00 PM at the Annenberg Center in the Harold Prince Theatre. This event is open to all ticket holders.
